Dr Heselynn Hussein [MBBCh (Cardiff, U.K), FRCP (London), FAMM (Malaysia)] is currently Consultant Rheumatologist at Subang Jaya Medical Centre in the state of Selangor, Malaysia and visiting rheumatologist at the National University Malaysia Medical Centre.
Dr Hussein graduated from the University of Wales College of Medicine, Cardiff, UK. She obtained her MRCP (London) in 1993 and her FRCP in 2007. Dr Hussein underwent specialty training in rheumatology at the National University Hospital Malaysia, and further trained in Birmingham, UK. She also obtained a postgraduate certificate in herbal medicine from Napier University in Edinburgh and trained in musculoskeletal ultrasound at Glasgow Royal Infirmary in Glasgow, Scotland.
Prior to her current appointments, Dr Hussein was Head of Department of Medicine and head of Rheumatology at Hospital Putrajaya. In addition, Dr Hussein has served as Trainer for the Rheumatology Fellowship Program, Malaysian Ministry of Health, Rheumatology credentialling board secretary, and Content Writer and Editorial Board Member for the Malaysian Telehealth Project Health-on-Line.
Dr Hussein has a special interest in rheumatoid arthritis and gout. She maintains active clinical research programmes and has published extensively on these topics. She has participated in many clinical trials and also embarked on collaborative research projects with other centres.
Dr Hussein is the Immediate Past President of the Malaysian Society of Rheumatology. She was President of the Malaysian SLE Association, Internal Auditor of the Arthritis Foundation of Malaysia, and Vice-President of the Klang Hospice Association.
